Re: [K12OSN] K12ltsp & Mac OS9

Hi,

Thanks for the info, however where & how do I configure ATALK ? I can't find any .conf files or "wizard" to tell it what directories on the OS9 machines to mount or share.....

Yes. You can do this in one of two ways. You can have an Applescipt on the OS9
machine scheduled to copy from the server or have a script on your K12LTSP
server copy the files from the client. It looks like you are leaning toward the
second.

You can connect to the OS9 machine with a smbmount command using the afp
protocol. Something like this:

mount -t afp afp://user:pass idisk mac com/user /Volumes/idisk

Hi,

Thanks for the info, if I install Netatalk on the LTSP server and share
a directory with the OS9 machine I could, via a script, retrieve and
backup all the files to some device ?

thanks

Set up Appletalk (Netatalk) on the LTSP server. (Pretty easy with K12LTSP 3

or

4). Set up a shared Appletalk directory.

It really depends on what you want to happen. To backup crucial files from

the

OS9 machines, set up an Appletalk shared directory on the LTSP version and

write

an AppleScript program to connect to the directory and copy the files.

or

Share the directory on the client and write a scrip on the server to connect

to

the client and copy the files. This script could be run as a cron job.

Either should work.

(We are connecting OS9 clients to a K12LTSP server via atalk. It works well

for

us.)

Hi

Is there a simple way to have Mac OS9 machines (fat clients) exchange
files with thin x86 clients ? (Mac OS-X is easy via NFS)
What would be a good back-up solution to a hybrid network of x86 thin
clients, Mac OS-X & Mac OS9 fat clients ?

I know that I can setup a cron job to retrieve the files from the
K12ltsp server and probably the OS-X machine but what do I do with the
OS9 units ????

thanks
norbert
