Thanks for replying ... but I realize now that I think I'm on the wrong list.  I am not using thin client (my workstations have hard drives and the programs run on locally, not on the server).  Thanks for the suggestions ... I will look more deeply into the inner workings of SMB-LDAP and see if I can get to the bottom of my woes.
