[Linux-cachefs] is pathset 19 broken?

I'm running patchset 19 on 2.6.19.1 and cachefilesd doesn't work at all.

FS-Cache seems to be loaded (as per dmesg)

blade12_ROOT:/home/helix/cachefilesd-0.8 # dmesg |grep Cache
FS-Cache: Loaded
CacheFiles: Loaded


but when I try to run cachefilesd, it complains 

blade12_ROOT:/home/helix/cachefilesd-0.8 # ./cachefilesd -s -n
Unable to open /dev/cachefiles: errno 2 (No such file or directory)

what do I have to MAKEDEV for this to work?
