Perhaps, but IIRC,  that code line is being deprecated and is no longer maintained regardless.  I haven't used that method of booting for over a year, so can't comment.

OT:

I started having issues compounded by it (nfsroot) around 2.6.12 and moved to performing all those actions in userspace with initramfs-included binaries and scripts.  Plus, its infinitely more adaptable, such as for things like fscache ;)

Wouldn't it be simpler to include a new kernel option "fsc" to 
the "nfsroot"-parameter in the FS-Cache patches?
