[linux-lvm] vgconvert on live system

I have an lvm2 system (FC4) in LVM with lvm1 format (the LVM was initially 
created in RH9).  Can I run vgconvert on the running system (root 
filesystem is in LVM)?  Or do I need to boot from a live CD?
