[linux-lvm] can't remove /dev/sdd

Hello:
I need help getting rid of /dev/sdd.
I have tried vgreduce /dev/VolEmailNew /dev/sdd, vgreduce
/dev/VolGroup00 /dev/sdd, vgreduce /dev/VolShared /dev/sdd.
