Hi,
I have a machine with 2 RAID controllers ( 1 ICH5R - onboard, and add-on card Adaptec 1210SA) .I also have 2 drives that I want to build a RAID 0 with.
I tried this on both controllers :
1. connect the drives to controller
2. configure the controller in RAID 0
3. boot off CD and start the RHEL4 installation

At this point , when it comes down to partition drives, it complains that the drives have no partition information and asks to initialize them . Basically it doesn't see 1 drive ( the logical RAID 0 ) , but 2.

I know that both controllers are software raid, but how can I make this work ? Any pointers, suggestions are appreciated :)

you either need to use software raid, or, post install, the dmraid
program.

I was trying to use dmraid some time ago when I installed RHEL4 ES (not Update 1) on an Asus motherboard with Promise FastTrak 376 with two SATA disks connected. I wanted to use RAID 1 (mirror). This hardware was running fine with Red Hat Linux 9 (with kernel 2.4) when I used a driver from Promise. With kernel 2.6 no driver is available from Promise, but there is a driver sata_promise in the standard kernel, which is able to see individual drives only (no RAID). I have read some information about dmraid, but I was not able to get it running. Maybe it would be better now with Update 1. At the end I used software RAID (md0) which worked fine. Is there any documentation how to get RHEL4 set up with dmraid? I would like to have all partitions mirrored (including the boot one). The best what I was able to find is for Gentoo at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-258981.html - but it seems to be too Gentoo-specific.
