I have what looks like this:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2004-07/msg00009.html
in
tar (GNU tar) 1.14
on WBEL 4.
I've downloaded this:
tar (GNU tar) 1.15.1
which works fine.
My particular problem is in backing up /var which contains cyrus-imapd
mail files. The same script works on Debian Sarge (from whence I
imported it), including a system that also runs Cyrus Imapd.
Further investigation shows I was selecting the same source areas twice
when creating the tarball:
tar cCl / . var boot home
On the system where I created the initial version of the script, those
were all separate partitions, but not so on WBEL. Consequently the error
is less serious than I first thought (but it's still an errror, and is
fixed in the newer tar).
I encounter the problem some times, but not all times.
It seems to me advantageous to Nahant users for me to report this
against Nahant.
Is this in order?
btw the option "-l" (lower-case ell) is deprecated in tar 1.15. It has a
completely different meaning on FreeBSD. So, be warned:-)
