Yesterday I wrote:
I have seen the following many times now, so it is time to ask:
Laptops and desktops with Broadcom NetXtreme gigabit controllers
often fail to get an IP-address using DHCP, but only in the instal-
lation phase. I.e., if I wait until the DHCP query has timed out
and enter a fixed address the card works. Later, after installation
and reboot DHCP works flawlessly. So, there seems to be something
specific to the installer causing this problem. Any hints?
This spawned quite a few interesting replies, and already the first
one from Howard Johnson <merlin mwob org uk> helped considerably.
Howard suggested connecting the machine to a dumb switch which then
is connected to the network. See Howard's email for an explanation.
I'll continue to use this method until RedHat solves the problem
somehow, either by fixing the software or by distributing a similar
dumb switch with their installation package:-)
Thanks!
