I had the same problem on an Optiplex GX 270; try booting with:
linux ide=nodma
That fixed it for me.


	Having the same issue here on a Compaq Proliant DL320 (first
gen) - nodma does not fix it.

Have you tried burning your CD's at a lower speed? I can't tell you how many coasters I've manufactured burning at 32X.
