As promised, here is the response from RH concerning the above subject.
It seems that this library is no longer included, as you have pointed
out. These libraries are included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, for
backwards compatability with Red Hat Linux version 6.2.
There are no plans at this time to release a backwards compatability
library for this version, and there are some serious issues in porting
this library to the newer gcc.
Would it be possible to talk to your vendor about recompiling this
application for a newer libstdc++ ?
So, it seems if you have an application that relies on libstdc++.so.2.8
you may be out of luck unless you can get the cooperation of your vendor.
