Simple question - do you have a DISPLAY running on the test box? And
what do you mean by "I get nothing"? Does xclock generate an error or
does it produce no output and "hang" at the prompt? If the latter, it is
sending somewhere...
Can you be clearer on what you are doing? I'm thinking you are doing
this (maybe I'm not interpreting you correctly):
telnet to test from client
set DISPLAY to client
telnet to remote
set DISPLAY to test
xclock
and expecting xclock to show up on client's DISPLAY. Remember to always
set DISPLAY to the client. Also, you might want to look at the X11
forwarding feature of ssh... I'm not talking down, but some folks get
really confused with X.

Subject: redirecting X display
What should be a simple query on X redirection.
I have setup a test RH 4 box.
I can do the following;
telnet to the box
ssh to the box
set display to another X server on the network and display xclock to
this machine
What I cannot do.
connect to a remote box and set display to the test box. I get nothing.
Things I have tested for;
xhost + is set
IP/NIS/DSN are ok
looked in logs on both remote and locate boxes.
Can anyone give me a pointer in the right direction to debug this, as I
am somewhat stumped, with what is essentially a simple problem.
Tks,
-Bob
