Thanks, Stephen.
That was indeed a typo as you guessed. I thought /lib and /usr/lib
were included by default but I've got this really weird problem. I'll
do as you suggest and see if I can track it down.

Fred,
/usr/lib and /lib are included when ldconfig is run by
default.
You could run ldconfig -p |grep <libraryname> to see if the library is
listed in the dynamic library cache. It may be worth running
ldd <program-name> and putting the missing library name into
find / -name '<missing-libraryname>' just to make sure the
required library file(s) is on the system if you haven't already.

PS. A quick final thought is that if libdc++.so.5 was a typo of
libstdc++.so.5 then is comes as part of the compat-libstdc++-33..
rpm -q compat-libstdc++-33 might worth checking.
