This is a good thing, while AppleTalk was useful, it's time for it to go
and the replacement is way better.
In fact, unless you have a large base of OS8 machines, you really don't
need Appletalk.
I am also wondering if it is better to install the older RPM from RH 71 (at
least it was tested by Red Hat), or go directly to the source and install the
latest version?
Please, use the source rpm's from netatalk.sf.net, you'll be much happier.
The RPM's Red Hat provided in 7.x were old then.
