Well, except for the fact that the Qlogic driver included in RHEL4
appears to have no way to scan the fabric for new LUN's except for
unloading and reloading the driver (this may have changed in U2, haven't
checked yet). This is a pretty critical feature that's previously been
missing in the built in driver but works trivially with the standard
Qlogic driver.
Persistent binding also seems to be missing from kernel driver. This
can be important for non-LVM setups, or if you using fiber channel
devices other than disks and your don't want to depend of
"luck-of-the-draw" as to where your tape drives and autoloaders show up.
Some people also like the Qlogic failover, which, for environments that
support it, is far easier to setup and implement, especially for
boot-from-SAN, than the new failover that was finally introduced in
RHEL4 U2.
In other words, the built-in driver is great for basic connectivity, but
is a little short on features in larger enterprise setups.
Later,
Tom
