Were I creating a distro, I'd make aim to make installation 
recommendations that would work for almost all my users. Such choices 
would be very different from those I'd actually use on a system for _my_ 
use.

I'd not install nano, but I have seen authors' recommendations that 
novices (ie their readers) use nano. Therefore, I'd likely include it as 
part of my basic software set in a distro.
