You may want to check out <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=151426>. I've seen this same thing trying to sync a Palm Tungsten E. The suggestion in the bugzilla of 'modprobe -r ehci_hcd' didn't work for me, but it may for you (while drastically slowing down your transfers, of course). You may also want to add to that bug that it isn't limited to Palm devices.
