Problem with PHP logging

I'm getting a bunch of "PHP Notice:" entries in my Apache error_log.  I
set:

error_reporting = E_COMPILE_ERROR|E_ERROR|E_CORE_ERROR

in my php.ini and restarted httpd, but I'm still getting the notice
level messages logged.  Any suggestions?
