Actually, attempting to use the LSI Logic adapter with RHEL4 U2 will
typically cause the virtual machine to crash with a major error during
boot.

This is due in part to the way the LSI Logic adapter is implemented in
ESX 2.x and some major changes that were introduced in the LSI Logic
driver in RHEL4 U2. Previous versions of RHEL4 would install and run OK
on ESX 2.x, although not officially supported by VMware.

A few weeks ago VMware announce official support for RHEL4 U2 running on
ESX 2.5.2 in conjunction with a special driver disk (basically the
BusLogic driver) and an updated version of VMware tools.

RHEL4 U3 appears to have a fix that get the LSI Logic driver working
again when run on ESX 2.5.x servers so it will be interesting to see if
VMware swaps back to supporting that driver or not.

ESX3 (currently in beta) definitely seems to work fine with the LSI
Logic driver with RHEL4 U2 and U3.

Later,
Tom
