What I'm calling the "failure behavior" is that the script takes a long time to finish -- twenty-some minutes on stock rhel4u2 in our operational configuration. That makes rhel4u2 unusable for us. In rhel3u4, the script completes in well under a second. And it does that running on rhel4u2 if you install the 2.6.15 kernel from kernel.org. As part of the Service Request work (Service Request 807468) Red Hat requested, and we provided, sysreport output from our operational system and strace output from running the test script.
