smbfs mounts not following links

I recently upgraded from Redhat Enterprise Linux WS 3 to version 4.

After the upgrade, the smbfs mounts don't follow links on the remote 
filesystem (my system is the client).  This used to work prior to the 
upgrade.

Is there a related configuration change I need to make to regain this 
functionality?
