Re: Cuckoo repositories

I grab packages from external repositories from time to time. Most of the time I don't use them directly but get the src.rpm so that I can tweak it to match our environment. The only packages I will usually consider installing unmodified are the ones from Dag/RPMForge (http://rpmforge.net) and from the JPackage project (http://jpackage.org).

With src.rpms I don't care too much where they come from though it happens that the quality is so bad that it's easier to just rewrite the spec file from scratch.

Can you state whether they are RHEL -compatible or Cuckoo repos -
break your system.

RPMForge and JPackage.org build packages explicitly for RHEL (2.1,3 & 4).

Also CERN has some interesting stuff in their Scientific Linux (another RHEL rebuild) section (http://cern.ch/linux) like RHEL3 compatible versions of the nvidia & ati driver RPMs that Livna (http://rpm.livna.org) created for Fedora.
