Re: [OS:N:] Service Pack CDs

Is there a way to do this sort of thing through the RedHat Network?

Have you considered downloading the rpms to a centralized server? You could have a daemon or cron jobs on the clients to detect when new rpms show up and install them automatically. Another option would be, if all machines have the same configuration, you could run "up2date --download" on one machine and copy the rpms from /var/spool/up2date/ to use on all of them.

Going the route of the CD, I don't see why it would be a problem to write a program that you could toss on a cd along with the rpm updates so it would be as simple as inserting the cd and typing "mount /mnt/cdrom/; sh /mnt/cdrom/update_system".

Does anyone know of a tool to do either of these things. If not, I suppose I should write one.

RedHat should offer Service Pack CDs, so it isn't as difficult to update
machines running say 6.2 to current rpm builds.

He said this I believe, because he is posted out in one of our buildings
with a 56 k dialup and is working on updating our linux machines in that
building.

Don't know who this would hurt, but As far as some of our schools, we would
love some cds like that. Would even buy it, although the iso is good to
download as well from our office and send it out to the building.

Thanks
