This is not so.  We have written some config tools in house but they are
small programs that you don't really need a large community of
developers to get right.  They are all open source so if anybody else
finds them useful, they are free to extend and build upon them. Most of
the major improvements to 8.0 come from the community, just like
always.  A new kernel, a new compiler, a new glibc, Gnome2, GTK2, new
KDE...these are all things that the community built.  We hire people to
work on them, but it's all done in the context of working together with
the community.  

The main difference now is that we finally have a graphic artist to make
things prettier.
