Just a little note:
I have been slowly changing my site to reflect my new interests in
open source software. School-Library.net originally started out as
a large clearinghouse of academic resources that eventually turned out to be little
more than a profusion of links lists organized by the outdated and very culturally
biased Dewey Decimal System. Recently, however, the site has begun to reflect my
interest in, advocacy of and use of open source software. It seems that this topic
has generated far more interest than the previous content, too. So, in order to
accomodate this growth, and to support this fantastic community as well as my fellow educators, I have begun a wholescale shift in the site's focus.
Now the site is metamorphising into a technology resource for educators AND, in the spirit of open source community, a place where I am sharing the curricula that I have been creating for my students, much of it technology based.
Today I updated the "Front Desk" (homepage) of the site to reflect this change.
There has been talk, at least at Schoolforge, of creating an open source database of curricula, lesson plans, etc. I am hoping that my site can expand to contribute to precisely this kind of effort, as well as be a technology resource. The site is already fairly well established as an academic resource and gets regular traffic from other academic sites. I hope that my efforts will continue to promote open source technology in schools. I am now using both Linux on my PC and open source software on my new iBook, too, so I intend to be very open to various open source resources and to showcase them on my site. there is much work to be done ont he site, but the metamorphosis had already been in the works, sort of unconsciously, for some time. Now, I have simply decided to make a concerted effort to pursue the direction that I have been inadvertently taking for some time.
I do wish to also state that I am very grateful to have found and become a part of the open source community. The principles that are alive here are refreshing in a world of exploitatoin and greed. It is my sincere with to improve the educatoin community by bringing the two together. Also, I always welcome your feedback, suggestions and criticism regarding my site.
