On a similar note, many people(i.e. people who dont know about OSS) have
the idea that you "get what you pay for."
Your favorite linux distribution/freebsd/whatever is free. The mind of the
consumer thinks because they are paying ~$160ish for Windows XP Pro, that
they are getting a solid built product (and rightfully so - $160 is a large
chunk of change to be dropping on an operating system. I dont want to even
think about the "server" products).
Then companies like red hat sell linux, but from what i've seen, its
hidden away in a side corner of your local CompUSA, or some outfit like
that. If redhat put some money into advertising their product (I havn't seen
an ad for red hat linux on TV...) then maybe more people would try to
install linux, and play with it.
Or perhaps its already been tried before and i'm unaware, in which case,
oops.
