Interesting timing.
This week CNN put out a story, "Is Linux poised to topple Microsoft?"
http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/09/03/hln.wired.linux/index.html
This is the kind of thing that backs up my point about advocacy to the
masses. When Linux geeks say to the public "Linux is poised to challenge
Microsoft", nobody listens. But when they say it to the IT-aware world,
and the IT world listens and starts using Linux, *then* it catches the
attention of the mainstream. And when CNN tells the public the same
message, it has a much wider audience amongst people who otherwise
wouldn't care.
In any case, despite the article's cheezy wording, it has a definite place
in the arsenal of anyone trying to make a case for Linux among their
peers.
And, in the ultimate irony that will be missed by most of CNN's readers,
the piece incvludes a goofy reference comparing Microsoft to communism.
