The "money" is driving Linux toward standards and away from possible
fragmentation if anything. ISV's wanted the LSB as much as anyone.
I would guess that w/o money, there would have been opinions as to where
to head, which in the beginning, could have meant *anywhere*. We needed
revenue to set a direction as to where to go first, perhaps.
