[OS:N:] Re: School Filtering

As a parent whose youngest will be 31 this week, I am convinced parents
don't have a clue as to what their kids do. You may filter something at
schools, but they will find it elsewhere. I learned some time after the fact
that our baby when in high school went to a friend's house to watch bawdy
cable channels. Neither set of parents knew what went on in the wee hours.
He's now a civil engineer, married and none the worse for the experience.

Filtering is censorship and censorship is never a good thing. We would be
better advised to meet things head on. Talk about sex, pornography etc.
etc., but this won't happen until many more of us become willing to take
responsibility for what is done by government; to insist on being part of
the decision making process. As it is we prefer to live the delusion that
our kids don't know more about sex than we do.
