- Subject: [OS:N:] Reminder: 11/21 Dr. Vinton Cerf and the InterPlanNetary Internet
- Date: Thu Nov 6 13:19:31 2003
PLEASE NOTE: The following announcement is regarding a presentation
for YHSLUG and "sister" LUG's. There has been some concern expressed
from Dr. Cerf's camp about over-advertising this. So please DON'T
spread the word. We're trying not to overwhelm an already busy guy.
Reminder: One week from tomorrow.
WHAT: InterPlaNetary Internet (IPN) presentation
WHO: Dr. Vinton Cerf
WHEN: Friday, November 21, 2003, 7:00 PM
WHERE: Yorktown High School, 5201 N. 28th St., Arlington, VA
HOST: Yorktown High School Linux User Group (YHSLUG)
INFO: http://yhslug.tux.org/
(Original announcement below)
Linus Torvalds is often quoted as saying that the future of Linux
is "World Domination". Vinton Cerf and his colleagues don't see
domination as the target, but rather, wide area coverage, going
beyond Earth to the rest of the Solar System.
Step 1: Registering www.rover.mars.int ;-)
If you missed his most excellent presentation at NoVaLUG a while
back, fret not!
Join Dr. Cerf as he presents the InterPlaNetary Internet (IPN) at
the next Yorktown High School Linux User Group (YHSLUG) meeting on
Friday, November 21, 2003, 7:00 PM. Directons and maps can be
found on the YHSLUG web site:
http://yhslug.tux.org/
For the two or three readers on these lists who are unfamiliar
with the presenter -- there aren't more than two or three of you,
I'm sure -- Dr. Cerf was one of the folks there when the Internet
(back then called ARPAnet) was just a gleam in a few peoples'
eyes. He is one of the original co-designers of the TCP/IP
protocols and the architecture of the Internet.
And he likes science fiction. ;-)
