There are certainly cases of this. Usually off of donations other times
by doing the work as commissions. Yet this sucks as a business method,
it doesn't allow for stable long term business planning. If RH used
this method you would be out of business.
However, I would argue that the two good business methods being
demonstrated in the world today are support of the software and by a
dual license methods.
I want Linux and open source to succeed not stall out when donations and
one time commissions dry up.
