This is more of a Red Hat post than a PAM post, but bear with us, folks...

The current (and long-standing) policy at Red Hat is that Red Hat Linux
will only support shadow passwords when it is done only through PAM. I
support that policy; I think it is the only sensible policy for Red Hat
to take. (That doesn't denigrate the shadow work you have been doing
in the least, though!)

So by making the applications support PAM, we'll get shadow support
in, too. If you find it necessary to work on the shadow support in
PAM, it's a part of the pam_unix modules, and you should co-ordinate
that with Alex, the maintainer of pam_unix. Talk directly to Alex
<alex@bach.cis.temple.edu> if you need to work on that module so
that you don't step on his toes in the process :-)

I'm confused. Could you explain this, perhaps in private email since
it likely has nothing to do with PAM? (I see the smiley, but it doesn't
tell me anything...)
