How to install LINUX from behind a socksified proxy FTP server

I am trying to install RedHat LINUX (for the first time) from behind a 
socksified proxy FTP server. 

As requested by the installation program I entered the address of the 
socks server and the actual FTP server. An error message was returned 
informing that it can't get to the actual FTP server. Please note that 
the FTP port on the proxy server is not the default FTP port number and 
the installation program does ask for the port number. 

Is there anyway to get around this problem?
