Sound III 336SP modem OK or not?

Aloha!

I've been trying to use the Aztech Labs' 336 SP modem under Linux
but so far to no avail.  I can't even get minicom to recognize it.  In searching
through the list archives, I came across one post that  says it won't work
under Linux due to proprietary restrictions (although I didn't find it in the
list of unsupported hardware).  However, I came across another post
back in March where a guy first wrote saying he couldn't get it to work,
but then answered himself in a second post saying he succeeded by:

i finally got it to work by disabling PnP in the BIOS!

An email to his address came back "user unknown" so I couldn't get any
elaboration.  (I don't even  know what PnP is let alone how to go about
disabling it.)

Does anyone here know IF this modem will work under Linux?  If  the answer
is "yes", are there any special steps involved, i.e., how do I disable "PnP"
in the BIOS?

Thanks,

Philip Jarvis
