Re: network problem

Tom,

There must be a problem with the iface. (Wow... THAT was ambiguous.)
OK..... 'lo' is what I have for a local loopback:

*ip addresses have been changed to protect the innocent*
...<snip>...
[menion linux ~]$ ifconfig -a
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Bcast:127.255.255.255 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP BROADCAST LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3584 Metric:1
          RX packets:632 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          TX packets:632 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:E0:29:05:D8:6C
          inet addr:10.1.1.1 Bcast:10.1.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:12301 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          TX packets:955 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          Interrupt:11 Base address:0x6000
...<snip>...

Ok this is an example of one of my boxes. I changed the IP Addy becuase
... well you can figure that one out. My first suggestion is this:
compile a new kernel. If you have not done that, then that may solve
your problem. (Although I can't give you a logical explaination). If
you HAVE done that, then I would verify that your card drivers are
right, and that life is good on the selected options list. It looks to
me like your using the default kernel. It is not as efficeint, (mainly
mem-wise) as a custom kernel. I would build a new kernel, but before I
did that I would get the latest kernel from ftp.kernel.org, URL:
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/v2.0/linux-2.0.32.tar.gz

If you need any assistance send me an e-mail, and I can give you some
direction.
