Home Built 5.0 CD worked - kinda

OK, here is my report regarding the build of a CD from the ftp files.
Because I already had (first clue) 4.2 running, I wasn't going to be
installing from scratch, I was going to go the update route.

After downloading all of the files, including the SRPMS source tree, I
needed to change the ownership of all the directories to root.root and
many files to executable and remove many files and remake them as symbolic
links. I used the ls-lR list available at the ftp site as my guide.

Well, that did it. After making the boot image floppy I rebooted the
system and actually started working with the CD-ROM.

But, all is not smiles in BeanTown. There were two errors during the
update:

	1) iBCS: script failure during install
	2) ncurses-devel-1.9.9e-6.i386.rpm not found

I have no answer for error number 1 (RedHat, do you have an answer?). As for
number 2, the update program is broke, since it is looking for the above
listed file, instead of the file that is actually in the ftp area:

	ncurses-1.9.9e-6.i386.rpm

So, building your own CD is definately possible, and having it work as well :-)
Except, that I wouldn't until the above problems are fixed with new files
in the ftp area. Putting fixes in the update will not help those who try
and do an update via ftp, since the above errors will still occur. I
strongly urge RedHat to update the ftp files with the fixes for the above
problems.

If you want the see the structure of my CD-ROM to determine which files
need to be executable and which should be symbolic links, I will have
the list available in a little bit at:

	ftp://ftms.com/pub/linux/ls-laR

Hope this helps someone else.
