hi!
i also tried to download the whole i386-directory from a mirror site. it
could have been about half es cheap as if i buy the original cd-set. i´m
not in the states, and so the distribution i finally bougt spent me
700ATS (i don´t know the echange-course to dollars in the moment). i
bought the cd set, because of headache after installing the downloaded
version.
a did a lot of things with redhat 4.2, and i really loved it. but redhat
5.0 seems fo me to be quite buggy. there a only some quite small
problems, but because 4.2 worked so nice, i don´t know why 5.0 has all
these small troubles. it started with metroX. i finally downgraded back
to the older version, that works more stable. but the worst thing i
recogniced, is my shutdown. after a two days of system up time, i spent
my hardware some holidays (some seconds). when the linux went down, a
lot auf daemons could not be killed, because they were not working. (no
such pid or daemon not ...). whats up with redhat 5.0? and what are the
troubles with ping and traceroute? whats about the mysterious
segmentation-faults i often get, if i start some older applications?
i´m at the point to go bakc to 4.2, and wait for 5.2.
anybody out there, who got the same small but anoying troubles?
i have put the whole redhat-directory to my harddisk, and coppied all
updatet packages into it. i finally installed from this directory.
coul´d that be the problem?
greetings,
simon
