I am a consultant and I seem to be doing much more work in the UNIX area than I
used to -- I have used unix of and on for many years but I have gotten most of
my business from S/390 and older "main frames" and windows NT and win 95 -- VAX
business is now for the most part dead. I would like to keep one or two
variants of Unix running in my development environment. I charge less if a
client allows me to tele-commute and many do once they find I am honest (
perhaps too honest in my billings). I find many Unix types hiding out on this
board and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a source of runable /
upgradeable Unix type hardware. My current clients are running HP_UX 10.20 and
AIX 4.1.5.
I would like to find used upgradeable hardware that would run these OSs and
run the machines as servers even if they were slow and of limited capability.
Hopefully the hardware I would buy would be upgradable to 4 / 9 Gig disks as I
us the client machines as WEB servers or as Database servers ( Oracle, DB2) ,
and would allow significant main memory 64meg - 256 meg upgrades. I run a
10/100 base T network. These purchases would be out of pocket and not
reimbursable so 'cheap' is significant. The console could be cheap as I usually
deal with these machines through X-windows / CDE and more and more with oracle
through WEB browsers.
Any suggestions for a source of reasonably priced used equipment would be
appreciated.
