# Reveal 16-bit PnP sound card (I understand this wont work with RH)
Look into a program called isapnp or isapnptools, I have successfully got
a PnP soundcard AND PnP modem to work under RH 4.1, 4.2, etc. Basically,
setup the configuration file for it, run isapnp before kerneld starts, but
it is a MUST to have your sound driver compiled as a module. Isapnp must
"wake up" the card before the driver attempts to load, and if it's built
directly into the kernel, it won't work.
# Okay, the question here is whether it is possible to reformat the hd,
# and then install RH4.2 with XFree86 and Emacs and the C++ and Java
# packages and have enough room, and whether it is possible to run XFree86
# at an acceptable speed on this system, and how I should go about
# reformatting my drive and installing Red Hat. Any help will be greatly
# appreciated.
It is *possible* but it will be extremely tight. I know you can do it
with XFree86, gcc, RH 4.2. But if you get into adding more on top of
that, like additional C++ libraries, emacs, java, etc, you may find that
you cannot do it in 120 megs. Look around for a 250meg hard drive and you
should be able to do it though.
