Many of you will probably find this rather amusing.
I installed Linux the other day and now I am trying to get my various
pieces of hardware working. Namely, my sound card and modem. Well, I
learned from some books that I need to rebuild my kernel to set up those
devices. The first thing I am told I have to do is install the kernel
source code from the CDROM. However, all the books I have fail to
indicate how this is to be done. They all say the kernel is to be
installed in the /usr/src/linux directory but they don't say how to
install it there.
The next thing I need to do (according to my books) is run "make config"
and answer the questions. Well, when I run "make config" I get the
error:
make: *** No rule to make target 'config'. Stop.
So that makes me think that I must not be ready to run "make config" yet
which leads me back to installing the source code. Please help.
BTW: has anybody else noticed that the archive search engine on Red
Hat's web site chokes on searches involving more than one word?
Thanks in advance for the help.
