AIC-7895UW install problems

I'm having problems installing Red Hat Linux 4.2 (kernel 2.0.30.)

While attempting to install the software from CD-ROM, I am unable to
get the system to see the SCSI controller, I believe. I have an onboard
AIC-7895UW which is suppose to be equivalent to the AHA-3940AUW. I am
selecting the Adaptec 2940 driver and performing an autoprobe which fails
(but does not hang, but instead I get the "I can't find the device anywhere
on your system.")

I have turned off Initiate Sync Negotiation, Disconnection, and Initiate
Wide Negotiation as well as set the Max. Sync. Transfer Rate to 5.0 for
each scsi ID on the controller (both channels.)

Are there any options I can specify to help the install process discover
my SCSI controller or is there another install/boot image available that
has the AHA-3940 support?

Here is my hardware configuration:

CPU: Pentium II x2 233 Mhz
Motherboard: Tyan's Thunder 2 (S1696DLUA)
SCSI: onboard Adaptec AIC-7895UW (equivalent to Adaptech 3940AUW) BIOS v1.32
	scsi ID#0 Western Digital HD
	scsi ID#2 Plextor CD-Rom PX-20TS (20x)
	scsi ID#7 AIC-7895
RAM: 128 Mb
