4.2 Install Attempt on Virtual PC

I am attempting to install 4.2 on Virtual PC from Connectix, which emulates
a Pentium MMX machine on a Macintosh PowerPC. I have been unsuccessful so
far, but I am hoping that someone on this list might have some insight
about the problem.

I downloaded boot.img and supp.img, then used rawrite to write the images
to two PC formated floppies. I also set up and attached an empty, formatted
300 Mb "hard drive" (just a big file to the Mac) as the C: drive, then
rebooted the Virtual PC off the Linux boot floppy. The linux kernel on the
floppy loaded fine and I was able to run the installation program. I
decided to attempt an FTP install, which requires the supplemental floppy.
I inserted the supplemental floppy when requested, and initially it seemed
to be loading ok. However, when the progress bar for the load reached the
end, I received the message:

    Segmentation Fault
    0 Bytes

after which the kernel proceeded to shut down and reboot itself. I would
appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed. Thanks!

The hardware emulated by Virtual PC is as follows:

    - Pentium MMX processor with complete support for protected-mode,
      MMU, FPU, and MMX

    - 16 Mb RAM

    - Intel Zappa Motherboard with
          * Intel Triton Chipset
          * 8259 Programmable Interrupt Controller
          * 8254 Peripheral Interval Timer
          * 8237 DMA Controller
          * CMOS
          * Real-Time Clock

    - Microid Research System BIOS

    - IDE/ATAPI Controller

    - Video: S3 928 PCI SVGA Card with 1 Mb VRAM

    - Sound Blaster Pro configured to use base port of 0x220, IRQ5, DMA Ch 1

    - 8255 Keyboard Controller

    - PS/2 Mouse using IRQ 12

    - DEC 21041 PCI Ethernet Card
