completely random footnote

as an aside, 24 MB of RAM seems to allow for just enough head-room while
compiling the kernel. I was not running X, although I had a slew of daemons
"running" (OK, so they were not very busy on my two computer LAN). I kept a
close tab on my memory and although my free ram did drop into to 200k
range, it never busted into either of my 8MB swap partitions.

I did not run a stop-watch, but my latest kernel compiled in about 20
minutes on my p-100 with 24MB of ancient 72-pin SIMMS. (no L2 cache, either).

If I've still got your attention, do you know of any FTP packages that work
through a proxy server? Right now, I'm forced to FTP the files onto my
Winbox *then* I can FTP them to my Linux box (I can't get PPP up under
Linux yet) so I'm running a proxy agent on the Winbox. Any free NFS clients
or X emulators for Win95?

Thanks,
-Curtis
