Hi,
I run into serious problems installing RedHat 4.2 on my machine.
I used to have an old (1.2.1) Slackware Linux and when I tried to
install RedHat 4.2 the installation process was crashing with a message:
invalid operand: 0000
CPU: 0
EIP: 0010:[<0010c611>]
EFLAGS: 00010046

The configuration of the machine is
486 DX4 100 MHz
24MB RAM
Phoenix Bios
hda --> MAXTOR 850 MB (DOS 6.2)
hdb --> MAXTOR 850 MB (Linux or was LINUX...)
hdc --> ATAPI CDROM CDE200 (CREATIVE)
Finally I managed to install only the base RedHat 4.2 system
and LILO in a floppy.
However, when I tried to install other packages (being able to login)
or even to boot Linux I am getting the same error messages ....
At boot time the hardware is detected properly (i.e. RAM, HDs, CDROM)
This error message it seems to appear at "random" (i.e. not at the same
point each time...) and I think it should be hardware related ?
I never had any problems before with my old Linux (1.2.1)
Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance
