REDHAT AND X WINDOWS AND .xinit or .Xclients

I've been using the book "Running Linux" by Matt Walsh to help in setting
up Red Hat Linux. In it, it statest that the X windows start u script is
.xinit, and that is the place for putting X windows start up programs etc...

However, reading the "Customizing X Windows Tips" document from Red Hat, it
states that the scripit file is .Xclients. But, Red Hat 4.2 has a default
.xinit file??? Which one do I use for X windows start up script???? Can I
get rid of the .xinit file?
