Zip Drives

I have a RedHat 4.2 system and am trying to read from a Zip disk created
 under SCO.  

Is this possible and if so, how would I accomplish it?  

Everything I can find says you have to start with fdisk on a zip disk and
define the file system.  This would cost me my data wouldn't it?
