rpm core dump on updates

Hi, all,

I am upgrading from RH 4.0 to 4.2, and has the "signal 11" problem (even
when I rebuild the rpm database).

However, I manage to upgrade via each indivisual RPM, but my previous
rpm database was wiped during the upgrade. That still be fine ;( The
biggest problem is when I tried to upgrade the XFree3.3, the rpm
(2.3.11) gave a core dump, and the db-XXX.rpm told that it needs
"/bin/sh" which is there of course.

I suspected this might be either the short of disk space in /var or /usr
when I upgrade. I added 20-30 MB for that partitions now, but it still
gave a core dump (segmentation fault). Of course, I wouldn't see
anything via gdb since this is a stripped version.

I am lost here now. Any hints?!
