Hello!
I am attempting an initial install of RH-4.1 from CD-ROM, and the kernel is unable to mount the CD device. I am using an Adaptec 2940-AU Ultra-SCSI controller, and I have both an HP SureStore 6020i CD-R (2x write, 6x read) and a Toshiba XM-3801TA Variable 15x CD-ROM on this channel. Both work properly under all Wintel OS's.
I've tried to do my homework, but got nowhere. I have downloaded the latest bootaic7xxx.img and I checked that this boot image does indeed recognize the Adaptec 2940AU, which was part of the original problem. However, the original problem continues unfazed. Here is my best guess at the problem:
Checking through the Alt-F4 messages, I find that the install recognizes my Seagate ST15150N SCSI hard drive as /dev/sda; my HP CD-R as /dev/sr0; and my Toshiba CD-ROM as /dev/sr1.
But the error message I receive is "mount failed: invalid argument" then "I could not mount a CD device on /dev/scd0."
Why is it trying to mount something on /dev/scd0, which doesn't exist? Why not /dev/sr0 or, even better, /dev/sr1? Can I change this somehow, or what can I do?
One more thing, which may or may not have any relevance: at the point where it goes looking for a nonexistent CD-ROM drive, the install also complains about a disk change detected on some device, and asks me to please make sure that there is a disk in the drive. I'm not sure which device it refers to, and I *know* that no disks are being moved around. No lights turn on in either of the CD-ROMs at any point.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Even attempts at help would be nice, 'cause I'm pretty confused. Finally, please try to reply by direct mail, since I just subscribed to the list and I'm not sure if I'm receiving mail from it already.
Thanks!!!
