I used XFree86 with my Hercules card/montior many many years ago with
the old MCC distribution (pre-Slackware/RedHat/Debian), and it worked
fine for me (if a little slowly!). I hand crafted my XF86Config after
reading the man page.

Note that you should *never* ask people to mail you an XF86Config unless
you know *exactly* what you're doing. Using someone else's config file
could physically damage your monitor (and maybe video card, too?)
