Java performance under linux

With all this talk about JAVA apps, eSuite, etc., does anyone know
of any test results or reviews which provide reasonably objective
information on the performance of JAVA under Linux.  Specifically is
the Java VM reasonably fast so all these great Java apps will run, assuming
they arrive, at an acceptable speed under Linux.
